Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) - Mentor Information

Online Mentor Application

The OK-INBRE Summer Undergraduate Research Program exposes promising students to the exciting world of research and acts as a mechanism for increasing the applicant pool for graduate programs in biomedical research.  We will be seeking faculty mentors for the summer of 2019.

Each selected student will receive a salary of $5,000 (subject to taxes) to join experienced laboratories over the summer (May 21 - July 13, 2018). Attempts are made to match the interests of each participant to a mentoring research professor with related interests.  Each Mentor's laboratory will receive $2,200 for supplies. To conclude the eight-week program, each student will present a scientific poster of their summer research project. The cost of preparing the poster is to be covered by the aforementioned $2,200 allocation for supplies.

If you are interested in serving as an OK-INBRE summer faculty mentor, please complete the online application form which includes a one-page description of your research including a brief description of the project envisioned for the summer student, and your current NIH-style Biographical Sketch (not to exceed five pages).  Applications from prospective faculty mentors at Oklahoma research-intensive institutions as well as Oklahoma regional universities are strongly encouraged.  Applicants will be notified regarding project selection.

Please contact Dawn Hammon at dhammon@osrhe.edu or Dr. Darrin Akins, INBRE Director, at darrin-akins@ouhsc.edu or at 405.271.2133 x46640 if you have any questions.
